An update on Communication:
Any emails or messages sent after 8:00 p.m. will be addressed the following business day. (You are still welcome to contact your Honors World Literature teacher whenever you need to, but please understand that you will not receive an immediate response late in the evening.) Thank you very much for understanding!
GETTING STARTED:
During our digital learning adventure, work will be due twice weekly, on Tuesdays (typically - please note the slightly later due date this week as we adjust to this new format) and Fridays by 11:59 p.m. (You may always submit work early!) You will always have a list of items to complete for each due date, so please be sure to check the blog daily for any updates.
REMIND FOR JUST MS. VANBO:
You've already signed up for the Honors World Literature Remind (text @spr2020hwl to 81010 to join), but if you'd like to message me without Mrs. Riley being able to see the message too, you can join the following Remind group that will ONLY come to me: text @vbhwlsp20 to 81010 to join. If you've joined the official HWL Remind, you'll still get important updates from the HWL teachers that will go out to all students.
UPDATE - LATE WORK OPPORTUNITY:
By TUESDAY, 3/17 at 11:59 p.m., you have a late work opportunity:
- Due to the unit 4 vocabulary assignment due date (Sunday, 3/15) and the conditions we find ourselves in, the Honors World Literature teachers have reopened the Sadlier Connect assignments for Unit 4. If you have not yet completed this assignment, please do so for late credit.
By FRIDAY, 3/20 at 11:59 p.m., please complete the following if you were not present on Friday, 3/13 at school:
- Set up your five items and snap a picture! Then, type up an email explaining your five items and how they relate to your book. (This should be about a paragraph. Be sure to explain each of your items.) Attach your picture to the email, and send it to your teacher’s cobb county address ([email protected]).
ASSIGNMENT #1
By WEDNESDAY 3/18 at 11:59 p.m., please complete the following activities:
- Upload your Igbo Cultural Research PRESENTATION to the Office 365 Form I posted to the blog when we were in the computer lab. You can access it through the blog post under this one, or you can visit this link. (I know I said I was going to have you try to view each other’s presentations, but I think it’s just one too many steps, and I’d like to keep this transition to digital learning as simple as possible.) One submission per topic - communicate with your group members. (assignment linked here)
- Upload your Igbo Cultural Research ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY to TurnItIn.com. One submission per topic - communicate with your group members. (assignment linked here)
- Please make arrangements to acquire a copy of Amy Tan's The Joy Luck Club by Monday, 3/23 if you have not yet done so. I highly recommend you plan to use the PDF (here) or order the book online to be delivered (here).
ASSIGNMENT #2
By FRIDAY, 3/20 at 11:59 p.m., please complete the following activities:
- Using the novel Things Fall Apart, your research, and your notes/research from the culture presentations, craft an essay in which you analyze how the cultural collision in the novel challenges/changes a character’s sense of identity, and explain how his or her response shapes the meaning of the work as a whole. Submit your typed draft to TurnItIn.com by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, 3/20. As this was planned as an in-class essay, you do not need to include a works cited page unless you cite information from somewhere other than the novel. (assignment linked here)
- Complete the unit 4 vocabulary assessment on Sadlier Connect. This assignment will be available during the following specific windows: 8:00 a.m. - 11:59 p.m. Wednesday; 8:00 a.m. - 11:59 p.m. Thursday; 8:00 a.m. - 11:59 p.m. Friday. You only need to take the assessment ONE TIME (only your first score will count for a grade). Please note that if you do not complete the assessment at this time, you will be required to complete a make-up exam when we return to school.
- Repeated instruction from Wednesday: Please make arrangements to acquire a copy of Amy Tan's The Joy Luck Club by Monday, 3/23 if you have not yet done so. I highly recommend you plan to use the PDF (here) or order the book online to be delivered (here).

HELPFUL INFORMATION:
Always remember to CHECK THE BLOG FIRST. Assignments will always be clearly communicated through the blog. You won’t have to run around all of our digital platforms looking for things at random. You will ALWAYS have a clear “to-do” list with links and clarification on the blog, which will lead you to wherever you need to go.
Please be sure to contact me through email ([email protected]) or through Remind (text @spr2020hwl to 81010 to join) if you have any questions at all. Even though we’re not all gathered together in person, you are not alone. We are still a community. I am still your teacher. We’re in this together. I promise. :)
We’ve GOT THIS! GO HOYAS!!!!!!
